Wordpress Installation guide for Ubuntu 10.04/Mint isadora Linux(part 2):

Installation:

First download wordpress-3.0.1.tar.gz from wordpress.org and extract it using archive manager to your desktop,now open your terminal and use the following commands to copy extracted folder from desktop to your web document root folder (see part 1 for web document root directory).

#cd Desktop

#cp wordpress /home/user_name/ur_web_root_dir

In case of /var/www use:

#sudo cp wordpress /var/www

Now its time to setup MySql database (an essential part of wordpress setup) using phpmyadmin (if you don't have phpmyadmin installed on your system see part 1 for installation).

Open your web browser type in the address as http://localhost/phpmyadmin and press enter, on the login page type user name and password and press Go.

In 'create new data base' text field type the name of data base as 'wordpress_db' and click create button you will see a screen like this:

The next step is to create a user for 'wordpress_db',go back to home click privileges and then select 'add a new user',now type in the user name and select a password for your user name,confirm your password, also select the host name as localhost,and click Go in the right bottom corner.Again go back to home select privileges and click edit button for the user you have created for the database, scroll down and then in database specific privileges type the name of database as wordpress_db click on go and then select 'check all' and press go button.

We are done with creating the database,now on terminal use these commands to setup wordpress:

#cd /home/user_name/web_root_dir/wordpress

#mv wp-config-sample.php wp-config.php

In case of /var/www use:

#cd /var/www

#sudo mv wp-config-sample.php wp-config.php

wordpress uses wp-config.php file for general purpose configurations such as name of the database,user name, password and hostname etc. Open this file and fill in the fields like this screenshot:

Save and quit wp-config.php, open your web browser point it to http://localohost/wordpress and press enter:

Enter blog title,email and press install wordpress, write down user name and password on another file and click login, Enter your user name and password and login to your test blog voila!
