Installing Nvidia Drivers On Ubuntu 10.04(Lucid Lynx):

Last week I bought a nvidia graphics card (geforce gt 240) for watching HD movies and casual gaming as i spent my spare time playing games like call of duty,crysis etc.

Now to be specific I found It very easy to install nvidia drivers on my PC running ubuntu 10.04 so I decided to share my experience with you. I am assuming that you have a working internet connection.

First of all make sure that you are fulfilling all requirements like,minimum power supply as recommended by nvidia for your card ,and your card is properly inserted to the required slot I.e PCI Express. 

Now turn on your system Lucid Lynx will do it almost by itself , all you need is to make sure that you have nvidia-common package installed on your system ,don't worry its a word  of caution ubuntu comes with this package installed by default . In case you want to check go to System->administraion->synaptic packge manager. Now type in your password. In the quick search box just type in nvidia-common and hit enter.

Now go to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers

As hardware drivers utility opens it will search for the appropriate driver for your card.

At the end of the search the following screen will appear  recommending you the most suitable drivers.
 

Select the recommended drivers from the list and press activate . This will install the driver after some time .

Now restart your system and you are done.You can customize your card through Nvidia Settings  utility which will be located at System->administration->Nvidia X Server Settings.
